5:00 PM – 5:30 PM: Instruction Seminar (ONLY SL, CAPTAIN & DM ATTEND)
Candidates for DM, CAPTAIN and SL will learn instruction techniques for the teaching portion of the audition process.
March 10 4:45 PM – 5:45 PM: Conducting Seminar (ONLY DM ATTEND) – with Wes Booker, Boston Crusaders DM!
Candidates for Drum Major will work on conducting techniques.

Marching Audition
(Marching Leadership Candidates)
General Information
Each candidate will be required to march a Plus-Sign drill on the marching field.
The Plus-Sign Drill will be marched without instruments/equipment.
The tempo will be 120 and 160.
The exercise will be performed multiple times

Teaching Audition
(DM, CAPTAIN, SL, and Color Guard Candidates)
General Information
Each candidate will be required to teach a small group for 5 minutes.
Band:
Balance Transfer Exercise
Color Guard:
TBD at your Spin Camps.
Percussion:
TBD at your Percussion Camps.
The metronome will be on at 120 BPM.
Conducting Audition
(DM Candidates)
Each candidate will conduct the meter exercise with a cutoff on the final measure.
Each candidate will conduct an excerpt of an opener by memory.
An MP3 of the excerpt will be played while the candidate is conducting.
The MP3 and score are both downloadable on the Stony Point Band Website.

Drum Major(s)
Set the standard of excellence on and off the field.
Manage and influence the spirit of the Stony Point Band.
Manage the “workings” of the band (mini band director).
Lead in cleaning/teaching marching technique, drill, and choreography during visual rehearsals (indoor/outdoor).
Lead in cleaning/teaching wind music while during music rehearsals (indoor/outdoor).
Be willing to serve and go beyond expectation.
Communicate schedules, goals, and other important information with all leadership team members.
Maintain field discipline.
Assist band directors as needed.
Manage assigned areas as needed by the band staff.
Effectively run/manage rehearsals as needed by the band staff.
Captain
In addition to the responsibilities of a Section Leader, the additional responsibilities of the Captain are to:
Supervise game inspection, contest prep, loading and unloading of buses, etc.
Assist in teaching drill, music, or guard choreography as needed.
Assist in marching fundamentals instruction as needed.
Section Leader
Set the standard of excellence on and off the field.
Be willing to serve and go beyond expectation.
Manage game day inspection, contest prep, loading and unloading of buses, etc. and report to Captains.
Maintain field etiquette procedures.
Mentor students and organize section activities.
Communicate schedules, goals, and other important information that come from your Drum Major/Captain
Assist Band Directors, Percussion Instructors, Guard Director, and Drum Majors whenever needed.

Music Library Manager
Responsible for distributing all music, flip folders, and lyres.
Responsible for regular check-ins on the “Need Music” binder.
Responsible for library upkeep. (Organize and maintain cleanliness)
Responsible of keeping records of music that is distributed to students.
Responsible for Solo Piano Accompaniment Binders.
Instrument Manager (Wind and Percussion)
Check in and out Instruments (in conjunction with Director)
Keep records of instruments to be sent to repair and when they return in the Master Inventory
Communicate with directors for repairs on instruments & lockers
PERCUSSION: Ensure instruments being handled correctly, cased correctly, loaded correctly to prevent damage
Uniform Staff
Manage the uniforms of the band program in all areas such as cleaning, racking, storing, and issuing.
Check in/out uniforms (marching).
Keep uniforms organized.
Assist directors with organizing uniforms for cleaning.
Keep all uniform inventory tidy and organized.
Ensure that the uniform room is functional at all times.
Ensure proper care and storage of all uniforms.

President
Must be a junior or senior.
Presides over band council meetings.
Assist the band directors when necessary.
Ensure that all members of the band council are executing their duties.
Assist other band council members in the performance of their duties as needed.
Supervise planning of the Band Banquet.
Oversees Inspections (Marching Season)
Assigns 8th Grade Buddies (in tandem with Social Officer)

VP of Logistics
Create a process to select the loading crew and appoint the loading crew.
Work with band staff and the loading crew to ensure effective loading and movement of band equipment for ALL travel.
Create a system to ensure that all equipment is loaded and transported correctly.
Appoint a Quartermaster with assistance from Band Directors
Responsible for set-up and tear down for all concerts.
VP of Media
Create and maintain a photographical record of the school year as it pertains to band.
Work to ensure as much exposure of the band program as possible to the public including the school newspaper, the yearbook, and local news media.
Work with the Vice President of Administration in maintaining a bulletin board of photographs.
Assist the other student officers when requested.
Assist in the creation of the end of year slideshow for Band Banquet.

VP of Social Activities (1 VP + 2 Assistants, 3 Total)
Plan all aspects of summer band social events.
Plan an activity every 6-8 weeks for the band.
Encourage and ensure that section leaders are planning events for their sections.
Communicate to the Band Members and Staff regarding social events.
Plan social events (movie nights, game nights, Band Banquet, Winter party, DCI, Band Olympics, etc.)
Communicate with band directors & boosters on budgets for events
Surveying of Events (seeking what would be popular/attended)
Consists of one VP, one underclassmen rep., one upperclassmen rep.
Assigns 8th Grade Buddies (in tandem with President)
Can I ask a wind musician who did indoor/fall percussion to be my percussion evaluator?
All percussion evaluators need to be students who participate in the percussion section full-time as their primary instrument.
What about extra points on the score sheet?
The most commonly asked about are summer band camps (Longhorn Music Camp, Texas State Band Camp, etc.) and volunteering at USBands Austin Finale. All of these are 20 points. If you have anything outside of these 2, please ask.
